PCPA THEATERFEST presents Crazy for You


PCPA Theaterfest, the professional resident theatre company of the Central Coast since 1964, presents the Tony-winning musical and dance extravaganza Crazy For You with music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, book by Ken Ludwig, co-conception by Ken Ludwig and Mike Ockrent. Crazy for You will play in the Marian Theatre April 17 – May 18 and then open the summer season in Solvang from June 13 through July 20. If you loved 42nd Street, this show is right up your alley!

Loosely adapted from the 1930 hit Girl Crazy by George and Ira Gershwin, Crazy For You debuted on Broadway in 1992 and ran for four years, collecting 3 Tony Awards in addition to Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards. Show tunes include “I Got Rhythm,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” and “Embraceable You”as well as many other Gershwin favorites.

Crazy For You is an upbeat musical that harkens back to “the good old days” of Broadway. Follow stage-struck Bobby Child who will do anything for a chance to appear in the footlights. His journey out west gives him his big break to save a theatre from bankruptcy and win the local girl. This irresistible tuner includes romance, mistaken identities and show-stopping musical/dance numbers. Who could ask for anything more?

The original Broadway production featured PCPA alumnus Harry Groener as the stage-struck Bobby Child. Groener was nominated for a Tony for his performance. PCPA’s production features Michael Gruber* as Bobby Child, whose Broadway credits include A Chorus Line, Cats, and Miss Saigon, and Melinda Ann Parrett as Polly Baker, PCPA alumna whose professional credits include Goodspeed Opera House and Geva Theatre. PCPA credits include 42nd Street, Rope and Anything Goes.

The cast also includes Jack Greenman* as Everett Baker, Ryan Jensen as Lank Hawkins, David Studwell* as Bela Zengler, Kathleen Mary Mulligan* as Irene Worth and Gillian Chadsey as Patricia Fodor. It’s directed and choreographed by Eric Hoit (Hello, Dolly!), co-choreographer is Vivian Rachelle, Musical Director is Kevin Robison, Scenic Designer is Dave Nofsinger, Costume Designer is Judith A. Ryerson and Lighting Designer is Angeline Summers-Marvel, Sound Designer is Brieanna Varney and Stage Manager is Suzanne Tyler*.
